So, you’ve booked your Walt Disney World vacation, hooray! You’ve got your ticket, you’ve got your flight, your finger is hovering over those thirty dollar Minnie Ears on Etsy, what more is there to do? The answer: so much! You’re now prepped to enter into the magical world of the My Disney Experience App.
There is so much to love about the My Disney Experience App (we’ll call it MDEA for the sake of my typing fingers). You can link your park tickets, make fast passes, check wait times, and even see what characters are out when and where.
After downloading the app from the app store and opening it on your phone you will be prompted to create an account. Once that’s done, the real fun begins! First things first, it’s time to create a profile. You can choose from a large selection of Disney characters to make your profile photo (mine’s Moana!).

After that’s done feel free to link up with any family or friends you’ll be sharing vacation time with. This allows you to plan together (including an option to manage plans for your little ones!).
Next, it’s time to link your ticket, which means you have navigate to your “homepage.” The “homepage” of your account is always reachable by clicking on your circular profile photo that retreats to the bottom of the screen to show the park maps when not in use.

After selecting your profile photo click Tickets and Passes. After this step just enter the ID code on your ticket, or you can scan the code with your camera! Here you can also link a room option with your ticket as well!
Fantastic! Now you’ve made your profile, linked your ticket, and linked your room reservation! Could there possibly be more, you ask? The answer is yes! Now that you’ve successfully linked your ticket you’ll be able to start making FastPass+ reservations! Now, before you get too excited, you have to be at most 60 days out from your vacation to make FastPass+ reservations. If you’re less than 60 days out, congrats! Check out my how to guide on making FastPass+ reservations here!
Another handy feature of the MDEA is the ability to make dining reservations directly through the app. You can make dining reservations 180 days in advance of your vacation, which is very exciting news! Be on the lookout for my how to guide on making reservations!
One of the newer features of the MDEA is ordering food ahead of time and picking it up at the dining location. Think mobile ordering at Starbucks, but instead you’re in Disney World! If you want more information on this new feature, be sure to stay tuned for my article about my experience using this feature for the first time!
Another fun feature of the MDEA is the ability to get your photos from PhotoPass Photographers around the parks! When you get your picture taken by a PhotoPass Photographer they scan your magic band. In a few minutes the photos they took of you will show up in your photo feed on your home page. If you are linked to friends on the app, you'll also be able to see photos from their vacations!
If you don’t have Memory Maker (where you can pay to get your PhotoPass photos) or an annual pass (which comes with Memory Maker), your photos will have a Disney PhotoPass watermark covering them. A cool feature of this My Photos section is you can also click “Find Photographers” to locate the nearest PhotoPass photographer to you!
Finally, the MDEA gives you the opportunity to look at wait times all around the parks before venturing off to that attraction. Swipe your homepage down to reveal the map of Magic Kingdom (or whatever park you were previously on). Here you can pinch, zoom, and move around the map to find wait times (and your way) all around the park.

You can also scroll through this menu and select other options, like character meet-and-greet locations, dining locations, and attraction locations.

Phew! Your crash course in the My Disney Experience App has officially concluded! Congratulations! You are so close to having the most magical vacation ever!
